Why work with a Horse?
These awe-inspiring, large, powerful animals draw you towards them in new and fascinating ways. One of the most interesting in recent years has been the development of employing horses to assist people to heal from psychological and emotional struggles. This is known collectively as Equine Facilitated Practice and Stable Relations is such a practice.
Each horse brings something unique to this work, and each horse also brings something unique to each client. At the same time that horse can bring something different to the same client on different occasions. Therefore the potential lessons, healing and development are limitless.
"All equine partnered activities take place on the ground; no riding or horse experience is necessary to benefit from this method."
Emergency Service Personnel Referrals
Stable Relations an equine partnered practice with the Greater Manchester Police Mounted United are working together to create an avenue of support and innovative activities for force personnel, emergency service personnel, armed forces and their families wanting PTSD Repair and support with Combat Related Stress Disorder.
The participating client will be taken step by step into the methodological approach of dynamic Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy. The Objective of this work with horses is to be able to assist client participants seeking help to reach long-lasting, behavioural changes, insight and understanding. Participants are offered the chance to work on the concept of "why we do what we do" and understanding the underlying thought processes that lead to these behaviours.
Through various experiences with horses, participating clients work on their perceptions and behavioural patterns on an experiential basis, in a fully guided and supportive setting, leading to positive change and renewed optimism.

"I am a serving Police officer, who recently suffered from PTSD, when I was first diagnosed, it didn`t sink in. I just presumed I had to get back into my normal routine and then life would be back to normal.
My GP and occupational health diagnosed me with PTSD and reluctantly I agreed to see a therapist. After wasting an hour and now having a third expert tell me I was suffering from PTSD, I decided therapy was a waste of time and so I never returned.
After 6 months of ignoring my symptoms, I knew I needed help and had to wave the flag, it`s not easy to accept defeat and although people say it`s the hardest step it`s not.
The hardest part is trying to cope after you surrender, I had to do this for 5 months, during which I never saw depression, just anger which grew and grew.
My initial treatment was cognitive behaviour therapy, but it felt more like counselling where you go over and over the same stuff, .......http://www.stablerelations.co.uk/referrals"

"I recently became involved with Louise and Emma through a work-based programme to combat mental health issues within the Emergency Services.
I, personally, am very open to more holistic therapies and approaches, and have suffered with anxiety in the past.
I was presented with the opportunity to work with Greater Manchester Police Mounted Unit, as a way of showcasing the use of horses to help people who are suffering with trauma or mental health issues.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the experience, but I found Louise to be very ‘disarming’ and able to read both myself and the horses with incredible accuracy; I found that she hit-upon issues and problems which were buried quite deeply within myself, and I was extremely surprised that she was able to do this by using the horse as a go-between.
The horse provided a grounded, calming, and encouraging presence, allowing Louise to talk and help me deal with the issues that were raised......http://www.stablerelations.co.uk/efp-and-gmp"
